 Mission, Emphasis & Desires

Vision:
"Follow me... Do what I've been doing... And even greater things."

Emphasis & Desires:
Transforming Prayer - It's is our desire to be a praying church made up of people who walk close to, talk often with and both individually as well as corporately, listen to God.

Relevant Teaching - It's is our desire not to merely accumulate more information about God, but to seek to connect our minds to our hearts and our hearts to our hands, feet and lips as we respectfully and creatively interact with and hear the Spirit's voice through the scriptures so that we are movilized to live the truth in love.

Intentional Living - It's our desire to live with such love and sincerity that our lives connect others with Jesus.

Joyful Giving - We're all busy people with pressing commitments and convictions.  But even in light of this, it's our desire to live lives with open eyes, open hands and open hearts so that we are ever able to joyfully give whatever and whenever the Holy Spirit should prompt us to offer our resources of time, talents and possessions.

Passionate Spirituality - It's is our desire to worship and honour God not in a spirit of religious obligation or guilt, but rather in a spirit of freedom, greatefulness and humility -- a spirit that empowers us to activate our gifts, talents and passions, that then encourages and services our community and our world.

Authentic Community - It's is our desire to shed facades, appreciate our diversity, share how we're really feeling with one another and refuse to judge.  We all struggle with something and in a spirit of care and hospitality, we seek to help one another struggle well.

Core Beliefs

Southwest Community Church affirms the revelation of God given in the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.  We are an eclectic congregation, comprised of people from a variety of Christian traditions.  We appreciate and encourage such diversity.  As a body however, we stand together on the following:

  • The sovereignty, love, and grace of God, the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit in creation, providence, revelation, redemption and eternal destiny.
  • The divine inspiration, trustworthiness and authority of Scripture in matters of faith and conduct.
  • The value of each human being as created by God and the universal sinfulness of humankind since the fall.
  • The full deity and humanity of Jesus Christ, whose life, sacrifice and resurrection is the sole ground for our ability to be free from the guilt, penalty and power of sin.
  • The illuminating, regenerating, indwelling and sanctifying work of God, through the Holy Spirit, in the believer.
  • The church as set forth in the New Testament and understood historically by the Baptist community.
  • The expectation of the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, our participation in the resurrection, and the hope of eternal life.
